A handmade hanging decoration in the shape of an ankh - the ancient Egyptian symbol for 'life'.

The design is based on an amulet in the British Museum collection in the shape of an ankh. Amulets are charms or tokens, carried or worn for good luck. The original probably came from a temple, and may also have been used in the New Year festival.

This decoration, featuring beadwork and metallic thread, is hand-embroidered in India by skilled local artisans. It is a collaboration piece between the British Museum and the design studio Poonam's House.
