  • A tapestry bag with floral patterns inspired by the 19th century artwork of William Morris.

William Morris (1834-96) was an influential British designer. This range is based on one of his’ most popular textile designs, 'Strawberry Thief', which features birds, strawberries and flowers.

The holdall is made with tapestry fabric and faux leather trims, with a fully lined interior. It measures 34cm wide by 23cm tall and is also available in red.

    More about the range

William Morris (1834-96) was an influential writer, craftsman and social reformer.

He founded a decorating firm in 1861 that eventually became Morris & Co. Commissioning designs from, among others, his friends Burne-Jones and Rossetti, he produced a broad range of decorative arts from furniture and stained glass to wallpaper (Morris' celebrated textile and wallpaper patterns are still in commercial production today).

This range is based on one of William Morris’ most popular textile designs, 'Strawberry Thief'. The subject is based on the thrushes that Morris found stealing fruit in his kitchen garden of his countryside home, Kelmscott Manor, in Oxfordshire.

To print the pattern Morris used the ancient and painstaking indigo discharge method that he admired above all forms of printing. Strawberry Thief was one of Morris & Co’s most expensive cottons but customers were not put off by the high price as it proved to be one of the most commercially successful patterns.
