Part of our Made in Britain range, this fine quality wash bag is handmade from Harris Tweed.
Harris Tweed is the only fabric in the world governed by its own Act of Parliament. It is a type of wool that is only made in Scotland, more specifically on the Isle of Harris or the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. It is thicker than the other, softer Scottish tweeds, however like the other tweeds the colours are striking and within each tweed, upon close inspection, a rainbow of colours can be found. The fabric used here is Hunting Macleod Harris Tweed, which has a checked pattern.
The wash bag is handmade by Catherine Aitken from her small studio in Leith, Scotland. Only heritage cloths have been used to make it. Even the leather trims are Scottish deerskin and the waxed cotton comes from Halley Stevenson in Dundee - this is in keeping with the designer's ethos to use as much locally produced materials as possible.
A hand- crafted and durable gift, the wash bag has a waxed cotton waterproof lining and the cloth has been treated to be water and stain resistant. It is also machine washable.
Because each wash bag is created from different swathes of fabric, each one is unique and will differ slightly from the one pictured here.
