    This charming drawing shows a young boy sitting on the ground with a small dog. Red chalk and graphite, with brown wash, c.1730-1809.
    Paul Sandby was a watercolourist and printmaker. Born in Nottingham, he joined his brother Thomas at the Board of Ordnance in London in 1745, and from the 1750s was involved in the campaign to found the Royal Academy. He is best remembered for his watercolours and as the first British printmaker to use aquatint systematically.
