    About

This print is taken from a volume of woodcut engravings by Eric Gill, (Bristol: Douglas Cleverdon, 1929). Eric Gill (1882–1940) is one of the 20th century’s most controversial artists. He is famous for his work as a letter cutter, wood engraver, sculptor and typographer. Like all modernists of the early twentieth- century, he used stylised form, explicit sexuality and the influence of other cultures to position himself at the forefront of the avant-garde.
