    A gold plated brooch with glass stones and a love message engraved on the reverse in old french. Moulded from an original 13th century brooch in the Museum's collection.

    The original of this attractive brooch is in the in the Department of Prehistory and Europe in the British Museum. It was a lover's gift; the reverse has the old French inscription 'Io sui ici en lui dami: Amo' - 'I am here in place of the friend I love'. It is gold set alternately with rubies and sapphires. The brooch is likely to have been made in France or England and dates to the 13th century.
