Victorian round pendant brooch

This brooch is inspired by an Italian gold pendant from the British Museum's collection, dating from about 1860-70.
The original pendant features a micromosaic of an Assyrian human-headed bull and was made in the Castellani workshops in Rome. The original is the only Assyrian-style mosaic subject found in Castellini jewellery and may have been created in tribute to Layard, who had done much to promote the Castellanis' work abroad.
