    About

A natural history print of ''Scolopendra Americana', a large centipede, curled into a spiral' by Charles Plumier, 1699. This artwork was an illustration in the book 'A journey to Paris in the year 1698', published in London in 1699. Insects, with their finely detailed bodies, are particularly suited to the sharp lines produced by engraving. This type of sheet was particularly successful in sixteenth- and seventeenth-century natural history publishing.
