    About

A fine art print of the 'The picture of a sea dragon or sea wonder, which has 384 teeth in its jaws' by Nicolaus Mettel, 1770s. This print of a fierce-looking skull appears to be a close study of an impressive dried shark's head made as an advertisement and souvenir for the showman who exhibited the curiosity, styled as a 'sea dragon or sea wonder', at the Frankfurt easter Fair in 1775. Mettel's design elegantly portrays an important anatomical feature: the rows of teeth that constantly grow and replace themselves, and make the shark such as effective predator.
