A beautiful wooden set of dominoes. Part of a range inspired by Chinese interiors, the inside of the box is lined with vintage Chinese calendars. The ornately painted, antique-looking box adds an Oriental charm to any lounge or study.
With each game completely unique and individually made by hand, this piece is part of a range inspired by the ancient Chinese tradition of lining furniture with calendars. Chinese farmers used the calendars to pin point the best time for sowings and harvest. The individual drawings on the calendars often represented iconic Chinese characters, for example the peony which is the national flower of China, or Mandarin ducks or birds, which are thought to have brought happiness. -
