Cobalt blue earrings handmade in Kabul, Afghanistan.
The earrings form part of a special range from Turquoise Mountain - an initiative established in 2006 at the request of the Prince of Wales and the President of Afghanistan. Turquoise Mountain's aim is to revive Afghanistan's traditional crafts and to regenerate Murad Khane - a historic area of Kabul's Old City known for its rich cultural heritage.
A unique addition to a jewellery collection, these hand-crafted earrings feature lapis lazuli gemstones set in gold-plated sterling silver.
More about Turquoise Mountain
Turquoise Mountain has transformed Murad Khane, a district of the old town, from slum conditions into a vibrant cultural, educational and economic hub. Turquoise Mountain has restored historic buildings, cleared rubbish and installed utilities throughout the entire community. A primary school and health clinic have also been established to ensure residents have access to health and education services.
An internationally accredited vocational institute dedicated to training a new generation of Afghan artisans in woodwork, calligraphy, ceramics, jewellery and miniature painting was also established. Several hundred artisans have been trained at the Turquoise Mountain Institute for Afghan Arts and Architecture.
