A pair of sterling silver earrings, handmade in the UK.
The design is inspired by the Catherine wheels motif that is popular in English culture, inspired by Saint Catherine of Alexandria who, according to Christian legend, was condemned to death by “breaking on the wheel”.
These earrings are part of the Chainmaille Collection by Laura Brookes, inspired by historical armour. This range of jewellery incorporates several traditional weaves of chain mail (or maille) armour, as well as a new version of the popular European weave commonly used in maille armour.
Laura Brookes has also created Sterling Silver pieces in a modern style which have been designed to complement the style of the chainmaille weaves.
Chainmail (or mail, or maille) refers to armour that is made from metal rings that are joined together in a pattern to form a protective mesh. Historically this kind of armour was used to protect soldiers on the battlefield from slashing and stabbing injuries.
