As a seasonal symbol in Japan, the dragonfly is associated with summer and early autumn and can be seen in many objects in the Museum's Asian galleries. More generally, dragonflies are symbols of courage, strength, and happiness, and they often appear in art and literature, especially haiku.
This design, by the British jeweller Amanda Coleman, features a bejewelled dragonfly charms. The earrings are handmade in England by the designer.
