Drop earrings with red Murano glass beads.
Murano glass is a renowned product of the island of Murano, which is located off the coast of Venice, Italy. The craft of manufacturing Murano glass is centuries-old, originating in early 8th century Venice, where there were considerable Asian and Muslim influences. In 1291 the Venetian Republic ordered glassmakers to move their workshops to Murano, fearing fire and destruction of the city’s mostly wooden buildings. By the end of the 16th century, 3,000 of Murano's 7,000 inhabitants were involved in some way in the industry and the island became renown worldwide for its glassmaking - a reputation that continues to this day.
This range of Murano glass jewellery has been designed and produced in the UK by Valentina Jewellery - British fine jewellery makers - especially for the British Museum. Here the design features large red glass beads set against sterling silver fixtures.
Ideal as a gift, the earrings are supplied in a gift box with a care guide and Murano glass authenticity card.
