A pair of sterling silver drop earrings, handmade in England by Karen Thomas Jewellery. They feature a 3D shell design that is inspired by the use of shells in Ice Age art.
Karen Thomas is a jewellery designer based in the historic city of York, England. She creates limited edition jewellery that is inspired by her love of unusual stones. Her latest range is inspired by natural forms found on the seashore.
There are many examples of Ice Age art that include shells as a form of decoration. For example, the British Museum collection contains shells used for jewellery that date from the Upper Palaeolithic period (at the end of the Ice Age, about 30,000-40,000 years ago).
These earrings have been made using solid sterling silver castings, created using moulds of actual shells.
