26 years in the making, Martin Scorsese brings Shusaku Endo's novel to life, exploring faith in extreme circumstances.

Young Catholic missionaries Rodrigues (Andrew Garfield) and Garupe (Adam Driver) go on a secret mission to hostile Japan find their old mentor Ferreira (Liam Neeson) who is rumoured to have abandoned his faith and married. They are confronted by the harsh realities of faith in a place that rejects their beliefs but find strength in the small but determined congregation they find there.
