A Chinese trinket box made from hand-carved cow bone and decorated with a frogs design..
In Chinese tradition the frog is a symbol of good luck, associated with Yin energy (a type of energy that represents the perfect balance). Frogs are also associated with immortality or healing, appearing in many ancient Chinese folktales in this way.
Created for the British Museum by the Real Pearl Company, this unique item forms part of a collection of miniature Chinese trinket boxes in a range of designs. Each box is hand-carved from cow bone and painted by hand, completed with a brass snap closure.
Due to the nature of the craftsmanship, there may be slight variation in designs guaranteeing each is a one-of-a-kind piece.
