A Chinese trinket box made from hand-carved cow bone. The design consists of a domed basket shape decorated with illustrated dragons (in Chinese tradition the dragon is a symbol of nobility, associated with the emperors).
Created for the British Museum by the Real Pearl Company, this unique item forms part of a collection of miniature Chinese trinket boxes in a range of designs. Each box is hand-carved from cow bone and painted by hand, completed with a brass snap closure.
Due to the nature of the craftsmanship, there may be slight variation in designs guaranteeing each is a one-of-a-kind piece.
