This wooden jewellery box has been hand-crafted in Italy by skilled artisans and plays classical music when opened, namely 'Spring' by the composer Vivaldi. Hand-painted floral illustrations adorn the lid.
The music box is a specially created for the Museum. It is produced by Ercoland, an Italian company who specialise in the art of handmade wood works - an old and noble Italian tradition typical of Southern Italy, especially the Sorrento area (where this box has been produced). The manufacture can only be performed by skilled and highly trained artisans whose craft is handed down from generation to generation.
Each box is unique.
More about the manufacture
The several steps of meticulous sanding, honing and varnishing are followed by the careful application of the image to the lid. Each particular work is a unique piece and its value is proportional to the quality level obtained. The quality level is measured by many important factors: refinement of design, choice of woods, delicacy of the hand work and the perfect execution of the final stages of gluing, dressing and refinements.
Each box is meticulously honed and varnished, the inside lined with plush velvet, and the hardware made in an non-tarnishable golden metal. The entire box is covered with a high grade protective coating to insure everlasting collectability. Finally, a beautiful and appropriate tune is selected and inserted into each box to play upon the opening of the lid. The bell- like clarity, richness and truetone quality of these musical works will greatly enhance your enjoyment of this fine music box.
