A jewellery box handmade in Korea from oak wood inlaid with mother of pearl.
This ornate jewellery box is hand crafted in Korea by the design studio, Nari - specialists in carving mother of pearl.
Mother of pearl has a long history in Korea; it was first introduced around 10th century during the Gojoseon kingdom and has remained a staple of Korean culture since.
The handcrafting process of mother of pearl still involves traditional techniques which have been inherited through years, as with this handmade box.
First mother of pearl is inlaid onto dry high quality wood, which is then lacquered in layers. This lacquering process, known in Korea as ‘Oht Chil’,adds durability and protection to the piece. This is how mother of pearl products maintain their original splendour for years.
Ideal as a gift, this unique piece comes presented in a silk-lined box.
