A resin ornament of a sphinx - mythical creatures from ancient Egypt.

A sphinx is a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head of a human. The creature was thought of as a guardian, often flanking the entrances to temples. The Egyptian sphinx is typically shown as a man (an androsphinx). In addition, the Egyptian sphinx was viewed as tame, but having a ferocious strength similar to the wilder Greek version.
