Inspired by statuettes of cats offered to the Ancient Egyptian goddess Bastet, who was said to appear on earth in the form of a cat. The Ancient Egyptians believed all their deities took animal form to appear on earth and considered the cat to be the most sacred of all. Offerings were made, as thanks for blessings, to Bastet at temples dedicated to this deity around Bubastis in the Egyptian Nile Delta.
