Hiroshige Drum Bridge Scarf
£40.00
One of the great Japanese landscape artists, Utagawa Hiroshige (1797ã1858), created views of his native Japan that are celebrated throughout the world. While his earliest prints were depictions of courtesans and actors, he became possibly best knownfor his pictures of birds and flowers and landscapes, especially scenic spots on the Tokaido Road from Kyoto to Edo. Drawing on a wide range of influences, Hiroshige used various painting techniques to produce original woodblock print images and adda sense of atmosphere and lyricism to his compositions. Innovations in woodblock printing after 1765 allowed artists like Hiroshige to produce single-sheet prints in a full range of colors. The brilliantly colored design on our scarf is based on theprint entitled In the Kameido Tenjin Shrine Compound (1858), number 57 in Hiroshige's series of woodblock prints One Hundred Famous Views of Edo.
