A bone china mug with a design inspired by the Lewis Chessmen.
The Lewis Chessmen are a remarkable group of objects in the British Museum. Dated to the 11th century, the chess pieces were found on the Isle of Lewis and consist of elaborately worked walrus ivory and whales' teeth in the forms of seated kings and queens, bishops, knights on their mounts, standing warders (guards) and pawns in the shape of obelisks (pillar shapes).
The mug has been designed exclusively for the British Museum and features illustrations of the chess pieces and their expressive details.
Made in England from fine bone china, the mug is microwave safe and dishwasher proof.
