Exclusive to the British Museum Company, this sterling silver necklace is inspired by Hypnos, the Greek god of sleep, this winged head of a youth dates from the 4th century BC.
The pendant is based on a digital scan of the original. The wing is also made from sterling silver and the face is moulded from glass.
The original on which this is based is a bronze head from a statue of Hypnos dated 350 BC - 200 BC . Wings are shown sprouting from his temples, and his hair is arranged into a series of locks, some falling freely, others tied in a knot at the back of the head.
