A handmade necklace with a glass cameo pendant that depicts the face of Medusa.

In Greek mythology, Medusa was one of three Gorgon sisters - a trio of powerful winged demons. Of the three sisters only Medusa was mortal. After being seduced by Poseidon, the god of the sea, she united with him in the temple of the goddess Athena. However this violation of the sanctity of the temple provoked Athena and she changed the beautiful locks of Medusa, which had inspired Poseidon’s love, to serpents.

This hand-crafted piece is produced by London based jewellery studio, Via Seres. The pendant, made in cameo glass, depicts Medusa with her locks made of serpents.

Each necklace is made from hand-pressed frosted glass (to create the cameo), a single rose cut diamond (approx. 0.125 carat) and rhodium- plated sterling silver.
