A shou symbol necklace based on a Chinese necklace from antiquity.
The pendant illustrates a geometric, maze-like symbol which is a Chinese symbol called shou, meaning 'long life'. Such symbols decorate jewellery, home décor and works of art and their presence is believed to have a specific, direct influence on the life of those who wear or live with it.
The necklace also features a jade bead. In China jade has been a material of the highest value since ancient times, above silver and gold. Symbolically, it is associated with merit, morality, grace and dignity.
Ideal as a symbolic gift, the necklace comes supplied in a gift box. The original is on display in the Peabody Essex Museum, US.
