The British Museum Press has recently reissued her colourful book, Indian Love Poetry, first published in 2006. In the book, Dallapiccola, who has a PhD in Indian Art, brings together Indian illustrations from the collection at the British Museum and combines them with English translations of Indian love poems by some of India’s foremost poets in ancient and pre-colonial India.

This beautiful anthology is the perfect way to discover the treasures of Indian literature and art. The poems are complimented by beautiful illustrations from the British Museum's Indian art collection, as well as short biographical notes on each poet.

Love is widely celebrated in Indian poetry, whether mystic love for the divine or the passionate and affectionate feelings between lovers, husbands, wives, parents and children, family and friends. Although the literary forms and language may not be quite so familiar, the same themes reappear in many of today's preoccupations with love and romance.

This attractive collection combines a selection of translations from various languages of the best of Indian poetry with illustrations drawn from some of the finest examples of Indian art in the British Museum.

    A. L. Dallapiccola is Honorary Professor at the University of Edinburgh and makes regular research visits to India. She is the author of South Indian Paintings as well as Hindu Visions of the Sacred and Hindu Myths.
