Exclusive to the British Museum: a silk scarf inspired by Albanian dowry chests.

The pattern of the scarf was inspired by Albanian dowry chest, sunduk, with the pattern traditional for Shkodra district of Albania. The scarf tells a story about what the brides used to have in their sunduks and about what was painted on their sunduks.

The candle sticks and ram’s horn on this sunduk are typical decorations for the Jewish holiday Rosh Hashana (New Year). The Sunduk silk scarf shows that Albanians adopted the decorative patterns from the small communities of Jews who lived in Albania.

More about the brand Triqita have designed an exclusive range for the British Museum. This collection is created by Natasha Korn and is titled ‘The Silk Road to Albania’. The design is inspired by images from traditional Albanian folk art and each tells a part of the rich history and story of Albania.
