    About

Especially available to order. Please allow up to four weeks for delivery.

A replica of the famous ancient Greek sculpture: the Discobolus. This reproduction in bronze measures 32.5cm tall by 17cm wide.

The original work in bronze was made by the Greek sculptor Myron between 460 and 450 BC. It shows an athlete stooping to throw a discus, a traditional Olympic sport. The sculpture is marked by the artist's ability to represent the expressive human body in a dynamic momentum and detail the various phases of the throw. The interest of the statue, regardless of its beauty, is that it features an art in transition. It combines two perspectives: that of the chest and face, seen from the front, and the legs, seen in profile, even archaic distortion, but already, the movement is sensitive.

There are several copies of the original distributed in Museums around the world. This version was excavated at Hadrian's Villa at Tivoli near Rome in 1791. The original piece that this replica is based on is in the Vatican museum, Rome.
