Lapis and gold finished pendant necklace inspired by the 19th century revival of ancient Egyptian jewellery styles.
The design is inspired by a necklace that was made in the Castellani workshop in Naples, made of gold with carved gemstone cabochons.
In ancient Egypt, lapis was highly regarded as a stone of celestial origin and as a symbol for truth.
Fortunato Pio Castellani (1793-1865) was inspired by the ancient jewellery and metalwork being unearthed at archaeological sites and started to create works closely modelled after ancient prototypes, creating a new fashion trend.
This necklace comes on a chain, in a presentation box.
