    About

Only a bare handful of drawings survive by Cosmè Tura, a painter to the Este court in Ferrara from the late 1450s to the mid 1480s. The drawing has the symmetry required of a devotional design. In the centre are the Virgin and Child within a throne decorated with dolphin- shaped arms and an open scallop shell supporting a cherub. This inventive decoration recalls Tura's panel of an enthroned muse in the National Gallery, London of 1455-60, and suggests that the drawing is also dated to early in Tura's career.
