About the Original:

The original vase by Greek potter Exekias dates to around 530 BC, and shows a scene from the infamous Trojan War. The traditional black-figure characters represent the hero Achilles and Penthesilea, the queen of the Amazons, and the image focuses on the wide-eyed Achilles thrusting his spear into the neck of Penthesilea at the very moment he falls in love with her.
