This necklace is handmade from pure silver and aquamarine gemstones, which are sourced from Afghanistan.

Its design is inspired by the traditional prayer beads (Tasbeh) used in Afghanistan since ancient times, and the contrasting silver bead symbolises the different shaped bead often included to help with counting. Engraved into the silver is the poetry of Hafez, a Persian poet widely admired in Afghanistan, and the designer’s own calligraphy.

This piece is part of a British Museum selection from the designer Sima Vaziry, an artisan jeweller based in London.
