These earrings are handmade from sterling silver and aquamarine gemstones.

The design is inspired by the traditional prayer beads (Tasbeh) used in Afghanistan since ancient times, and the contrasting silver bead symbolises the different shaped bead often included to help with counting. Engraved into the silver is the poetry of Hafez, a Persian poet widely admired in Afghanistan and the designer?s own calligraphy.

The earrings form part of a British Museum selection from the designer Sima Vaziry, an artisan jeweller based in London.

A pair of beautiful silver earrings crafted from aquamarine gemstones sourced from Afghanistan.

Inspired by Tasbeh prayer beads, the pure silver discs feature an impression of lines from Persian poet Rumi’s I have a cave, in designer Sima Vaziry’s own calligraphy. The elaborate silver discs and aquamarine stones are suspended from sterling silver hooks.

Translating from Latin as sea water, aquamarine is a light blue variety of beryl, and is one of the many gemstones that is mined in large quantities in Afghanistan’s mineral deposits. Aquamarine is the birthstone of the month of March.

An astonishing addition to any jewellery collection.
