Exclusive to the British Museum, a bianhu moon vase based on traditional Chinese Ming porcelain.
This beautiful vase has been crafted from fine porcelain, and is based on an original 15th century flask now housed in the British Museum. The traditional blue-and-white design features a blossoming branch bearing lychee fruits, above a base of white-crested waves. Lychees are an auspicious symbol, and are often used to represent good wishes for the birth of a son.
The Ming Dynasty original dates to around 1403-1424, and was made in the Jiangxi province of China. The Ming Dynasty saw the blossoming of large scale ceramic and porcelain production in China, where extraordinary ornaments were crafted and exported around the world.
