A highly illustrated study of Anglo-Saxon coins in the British Museum collection.

This long-awaited publication, dedicated to the British Museum's collection of Anglo-Saxon and Continental silver coins from the North Sea area from the early seventh to the mid-eight centuries, illuminates a coinage of major significance. This was the coinage that circulated during the age of the Lindisfarne Gospels and Sutton Hoo, and that is celebrated for its artistic accomplishment.

The last publication documenting this part of the British Museum's collection was published in 1887 and since then the collection has more than tripled in size.

Accompanied by a significant introduction from leading authorities setting this complex coinage in context, this highly illustrated volume features more than 850 coins, together forming one of the world's largest, oldest and most representative collections.

This book is a key reference work for numismatists and researchers approaching early Anglo-Saxon coinage from other disciplines, especially history and archaeology.
