Egyptian Lapis Lazuli Drop Earrings

<p>A pair of gold plated drop earrings made with lapis beads. </p> <p>The inspiration of these earrings are taken from an an ancient Egyptian necklace of fifty-nine long truncated convex bicone beads of cornelian, each gold-capped. The caps on the original are single pieces of gold foil which are shaped over the beads with the folds showing.</p> <p>Designed exclusively for the Museum.</p>

These elegant earrings have been inspired by an ancient Egyptian necklace consisting of fifty-nine truncated convex bicone beads of gold-capped carnelian. Jewellery was worn by everyone in ancient Egyptian society, although precious metals and stones would only have been affordable to the very wealthy.

Lapis lazuli was a popular choice of stone for Egyptian jewellery and ornaments, and was used to decorate the famous death mask of the pharaoh Tutankhamun.
