A mounted postcard of a detail of a wall painting from the tomb of Nebamun (18th Dynasty, Egypt).

The tomb chapel of a wealthy Egyptian official called Nebamun was discovered in 1820s. It was a place for people to come and commemorate Nebamun and his wife after his death with prayers and offerings. The paintings in his tomb are dating back to about 1350 BC and are not only showing how Nebamun wanted his life to be remembered but what he wanted his life to be in the afterlife.

In this polychrome tomb-painting Nebamum’s cat is shown catching three birds from a startled flock. This is a fragment of a scene representing Nebamun, standing in a small boat, hunting and fishing in the marshes whilst accompanied by his wife and daughter.

A striking piece of home art celebrating ancient Egyptian culture.
