These stylized shou symbol earrings are adapted from a Chinese necklace in the collection of the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts.

The earrings illustrate a geometric, maze-like symbol which is a Chinese ideogram called shou, meaning 'long life'. Such symbols decorate jewellery, home décor and works of art and their presence is believed to have a specific, direct influence on the life of those who wear or live with it.

The earrings also feature jade beads. In China jade has been a material of the highest value since ancient times, above silver and gold. Symbolically, it is associated with merit, morality, grace and dignity.

Ideal as a gift, they come supplied in a gift box and measure approximately 3.5cm long.

Please note that pierced earrings cannot be returned, except in case of fault.
