Greek Vase Wooden Postcard
Exclusive to the British Museum, a wooden postcard in the shape of an ancient Greek vase, which dates to around 540BC – 530BC.
The design is based on a decorated vase that shows the Greek hero Achilles slaying Penthesilea, the queen of the Amazons, during the epic Trojan war. The climax of the scene, as represented in the traditional black-figure design, shows Achilles thrusting his spear into the neck of Penthesilea at the very moment that he falls in love with her.
The original vase can be seen on display in the British Museum’s collection.
A wonderful souvenir celebrating ancient Greek art.
