Grenville Jewel Pearl Drop Earrings

Exclusive to the British Museum, a pair of gold-plated earrings inspired by the Grenville Jewel.

The beautiful studs feature large Swarovski crystals set in gold-plated metal, decorated with red and blue enamel, finished with teardrop pearl pendants.

The design is based on the 17th century Grenville Jewel which is now part of the British Museum collection. The original jewel is set with a large square sapphire surrounded by rubies, opals, diamonds and emeralds, above a teardrop pearl. The reverse side gold case is covered with champlevé enamel, and the case opens to reveal a miniature watercolour portrait of Sir Bevil Grenville, painted by David des Granges. The pendant was gifted to the British Museum in 1898 by Baron Ferdinand Anselm Rothschild as part of the Waddesdon Bequest.
