A stained glass hanging decoration which is painted by hand in Cumbria, England.

The decoration features a hand-painted design detail taken from the beautiful stained glass windows at Sainte Chapelle, Paris. Shown is a Grisaille motif, which is a 14th century stained glass window style that uses lines and cross-hatching to simulate tone.

Use of grisaille meant that large areas of stained glass could be made less expensively as less coloured glass was used - but it became an art form in itself, and can be seen in many of the medieval cathedrals in Britain.

Part of our Made in Britain range, this hanging decoration is hand-crafted in the borders of Scotland and Cumbria. Each is framed with traditional stained glass lead, hung with trace chain and soldered by hand.

Ideal as a culturally-inspired gift, the roundel is supplied in a velvet presentation box.

A stained glass roundel, inspired by the glass windows of the Sainte Chapelle chapel in Paris.

The design of the stained glass is based on the 14th century grisaille style of stained glass which uses painted lines and cross-hatching on glass to simulate different tones. Use of the grisaille method meant that large areas of stained glass could be manufactured less expensively than by using entirely coloured glass. Despite its thrifty origins, grisaille became an art form in itself, and fine examples can be seen in many of the medieval cathedrals in Britain.

Made in Cumbria, Britain, this roundel includes a trace chain and suction cup which can be hung on any glass surface.

An exceptional gift for the home.
