A greeting card inspired by the woodcut print Head by Head (1905) by Edvard Munch (1863-1944).

Munch obsessively reworked images of merging figures. Head by Head depicts a woman’s head leaning into the head of a man. The woman’s eyes are closed, whereas the man’s cold gaze stares ahead.

Munch made remarkable contributions to woodcut colour printmaking; Head by Head is a good example of this. This woodcut was designed and first printed in black and white in Berlin, and the colour impression was probably printed after 1914.

This card is part of an exclusive range to accompany the new British Museum exhibition Edvard Munch: love and angst.
