A mounted postcard of Home Sweet Home (1886-1939) by Louis William Wain (1860-1939).

Louis William Wain was an English artist who began his career as an art journalist. He specialised in drawing animals and county scenes and is best known for his portrayal of anthropomorphised large-eyed cats and kittens. From the 1880s his illustrations of cats were vastly popular, appearing in books, prints, magazines, and annuals and were collected by the public to adorn their homes and nurseries.

Wain’s cats engaged in a wide range of human activities like playing cricket, singing in a choir, riding bicycles, and drinking tea. In this watercolour a black cat is holding a sign saying “Home Sweet Home”.

An amusing gift for a lover of art and animals.
