Handmade floral vase, exclusive to the British Museum. The vase forms part of a range of porcelain by Justine Munson based on botanical prints from the Museum's collection.

The forms and decoration of Justine?s work are influenced by nature and for this special collaboration with the British Museum she has been inspired by the work of colonist and artist John White. The paintings on the porcelain depict two flowers: Hyacinth (Hyacinthus orientalis) and Apennine Anemone (Anemone apennina).

Each vase is individually handmade in England by Munson. She begins by hand-making the porcelain canvas before firing it. The next stage involves drawing on it using a mixture of oxides before fixing the decoration with a second firing. Finally, the work is glazed and fired for the last time at around 1250c to vitrify the porcelain and intensify the translucency.

Each handmade piece is an individual and unique work of art. Exclusive to the British Museum.
