A handmade silver necklace with a aquamarine gemstone drop pendant.

The design is inspired by the traditional prayer beads (Tasbeh) used in Afghanistan since ancient times, and the contrasting silver bead symbolises the different shaped bead often included to help with counting. Engraved into the silver is the poetry of Hafez, a Persian poet widely admired in Afghanistan and the designer?s own calligraphy.

This necklace form part of a British Museum selection from the designer Sima Vaziry, an artisan jeweller based in London.

Designed exclusively for the British Museum, a handmade silver pendant necklace crafted from an aquamarine gemstone sourced from Afghanistan.

Inspired by Tasbeh prayer beads, the pure silver disc features an impression of lines from Persian poet Rumi’s I have a cave, in designer Sima Vaziry’s own calligraphy. The elaborate silver disc and large aquamarine stone are hung on a sterling silver chain.

Translating from Latin as sea water, aquamarine is a light blue variety of beryl, and is one of the many gemstones that is mined in large quantities in Afghanistan’s mineral deposits. Aquamarine is the birthstone of the month of March.

An enchanting gift for a poetry lover.
