Exclusive

Exclusive to the British Museum, a robust and reusable lunch box with a decorative design inspired by the art of Jan van Huysum.

This environmentally-friendly lunch box is made from sustainably sourced organic bamboo fibre. It features an elasticated band closure and is BPA & phthalate free.

The design is based on an etching by Cornelis Ploos van Amstel (1726–1798). The etching is a facsimile of a 1735 watercolour by Jan van Huysum which shows an array of brightly coloured flowers in a vase which is decorated with two putti. This etching is one of 105 facsimiles from Ploos van Amstel’s series Ectypa.

Jan van Huysum (1682–1749) was a distinguished Dutch still-life painter during the early 18th century. His works include paintings of landscapes, but he was most famous for his floral pieces. These often encompassed different flowers that bloom across all four seasons, and therefore frequently took over a year to complete. Several of van Huysum’s drawings are now part of the British Museum’s collection.

An eco-friendly gift for art lovers.
