Jan van Huysum (1682-1749) was a distinguished Dutch still-life painter during the early 18th century. His works include paintings of landscapes, but he was most famous for his floral pieces. These often encompassed different flowers that bloom across all four seasons, and therefore frequently took over a year to complete. Several of van Huysum’s drawings are now part of the British Museum’s collection.
