Kali Icon Print
Exclusive to the British Museum, a print inspired by a 21st century sculpture of the Hindu goddess Kali.
This print forms part of a range accompanying the British Museum exhibition Feminine power: the divine to the demonic.
The print is based on a sculpture of the Hindu goddess Kali, which was commissioned for the British Museum by Kolkata-based artist Kaushik Ghosh. ‘Ma Kali’ (Mother Kali) is one of the most prominently venerated goddesses in India; associated with wisdom and salvation, she destroys ignorance in order to guide her followers to enlightenment. She is frequently depicted wearing a string of heads around her neck as a symbol of her powers of destruction over the ego, and is often shown trampling on the body of her husband, Shiva.
A stunning piece of contemporary home art.
